University of Brighton Libraries . St Peter’s House contains many relevant books and back-issues of many journals. The most useful I found was ‘Art and Industry‘, a contemporary journal, which includes many articles about the posters produced during the war.

Wow, I like the way this catalogue is set up, with the options to discover related information via a mind-map – I wonder how useful that actually is!

I spent a lot of time in the Library at the University of Sussex, especially in the Mass-Observation Archives.

EDINA

The services of EDINA are available free at the point of use for students and academic staff in the UK working on and off campus. Access to most services involves licence or subscription by universities and colleges, and requires some form of authentication by end users.

COPAC

Copac is a freely available library catalogue, giving access to the merged online catalogues of many major UK and Irish academic and National libraries, as well as increasing numbers of specialist libraries.

Copac has c.32 million records, representing the merged holdings of:

• members of the Research Libraries UK (RLUK). This includes the catalogues of the British Library, the National Library of Scotland, and the National Library of Wales / Llyfrgell Genedlaethol Cymru.
• increasing numbers of specialist libraries with collections of national research interest, as well as records for specialist collections held in UK academic libraries.

Invisible Culture: An Electronic Journal for Visual Culture (Online only)

This journal is dedicated to explorations of the material and political dimensions of cultural practices: the means by which cultural objects and communities are produced, the historical contexts in which they emerge, and the regimes of knowledge or modes of social interaction to which they contribute.

As the title suggests, Invisible Culture problematizes the unquestioned alliance between culture and visibility, specifically visual culture and vision. Cultural practices and materials emerge not solely in the visible world, but also in the social, temporal, and theoretical relations that define the invisible. Our understanding of Cultural Studies, finally, maintains that culture is fugitive and is constantly renegotiated.

Contemporary British History

Contemporary British History offers innovative new research on any aspect of British history - foreign, Commonwealth, political, social, cultural or economic – dealing with the period since the First World War.
